A few of my favorite things!

Who knew pulling Hunter in a box would be a hit! The down side, Ellis and I have been pulling that box around the kitchen all weekend long. Hunter will go and sit in the box look at you and wave you on over and if your not paying attention he will drag the box to you and insist you pull him by yelling.

Hunter loves being a big boy and feeling independent by feeding himself. I don't mind the mess and it is fun to help him develop this skill. What I find most amazing is how much he enjoys us eating at the table as a family.

Although this hiding spot is in plane sight, Hunter thinks he is hiding. He loves to sit here and play as well as take his daily poop.

Since the discovery of the kitchen which occurred several months ago, I have designated three cupboard for Hunter's enjoyment and discovery. Usually at dinner time while I'm cooking all items are inventoried and played with, I guess he is modeling what he sees.

Christmas 2009

Never was there a Christmas met with such anticipation in the Day house! We had a lot of fun trimming our tree with the aid of a two-foot person who redecorated it throughout the Christmas season. Last year my mom gave Hunter a cute globe that plays Christmas music and by the end of December we were praying the batteries would die but wouldn’t you know it, that thing was like the energizer bunny… it kept going and going and it still going.

It was fun to shop for our little guy and although opening gifts were not his biggest priority this year (it was more about the paper and boxes) we loved watching him discover his gifts and how they worked.

We set a Christmas record, NO presents were opened before December 24^th!! You know your bad when both your moms send gifts with big black letters printed on the front of all your presents, “DO NOT OPEN UNTIL DECEMBER 25^th.” They stopped writing the word Christmas because Ellis interpreted it to mean anywhere between November 26^th and December 25^th.

Once again Ellis found his stashed present and despite all my attempts to make Christmas a surprise he is just a good snoop. However, when it came to peaking at the wrapped presents I fixed his curiosity by duck taping around the seams of his gifts. I enjoyed a great Christmas and received some wonderful gifts from my loving husband and very adorable son!

Family Fun on the Ice

After a lot of persuasion, Ellis finally convinced me getting out on the ice would be both safe and fun. I still don't know about the safe part for I could hear the ice popping and it made a sound much like the one you hear after kicking a empty 50 gal drum followed by a vibration, but we did have lots of fun. With the sun shining we gathered up our cold weather attire and headed out to the Mendenhall Glacier. However, there was one condition that was nonnegotiable and it was that Hunter must wear a safety helmet that also applies to skiing, sledding, biking, horseback riding etc...I have worked with to many elementary age children that suffer from traumatic brain injury. The aftermath of such trauma causes a lifetime of learning disabilities that could have been prevented if only the child was wearing a safety helmet.Thankfully Ellis now wears a helmet skiing and like I told him bones break and heal but you only have one brain. So there you have it, call me a paranoid overprotective mother but it still won’t change my philosophy on wearing a helmets.

Series of Unfortunate Events

Much like Lemony Snicket's, Hunter has found himself in a series of unfortunate events. First it was an allergic reaction to the dog which left him with hives and itchy eyes but nothing a little antihistamine couldn't fix. We let Bella in the house for only a few hours. Both were having such a great time and Hunter even walked to the dog on several occasions...I guess she is just more interesting than us.

Next it was getting stuck in the chair. Now that one we still cannot figure out but it took unscrewing the brace on the recliner in order to get him unstuck. It was truly a Kodak moment!

Celebrating Hunter's First Birthday

Today we celebrated Hunter's first birthday, yes it is a few days early but by the time Ellis gets home it is just to late for Hunter to be excited about anything other than food and sleep. It is times like these that I wish we lived closer to family but the show must go on!

I opted for a homemade cupcake rather than a sugar coated nicely decorated store bought cake. Quality control over ingredients is important now that Hunter is eating solid foods, we all enjoyed a healthier version of chocolate cake (added pumpkin to the cake mix instead of oil and eggs w/light cool whip frosting) . We are all eating healthier these days, which is not a bad thing but Ellis still refuses to give up his Mt Dew.

Hunter did not like the frosting on his fingers and kept wiping them in his hair but when he got to the cake, he was in heaven. I have never heard him eat so loudly or make so many noises in the process. When it came time to open presents Hunter quickly caught on that a nicely wrapped package equaled a delightful surprise, however, a bow and balloons would have suited him just fine, for that was all he was interested in after the gift was opened. None-the-less it was fun to see him enjoy all the wonderful family gifts he received and look forward to the ones that are still in the mail.

Man's Best Friend

In order to use this duck boat, Ellis had to make sure his dog would stay in it while moving. As Ellis was not about to go out with our 85 lb lab he thought our Griffon was more suited for the task. He pulled Bella up and down the driveway several times, she didn't move. What a man will do to go hunting...hilarious!

Hunter's Handy Work

I thought puppies were exclusive in their need to chew when getting new teeth and horses only stand in corners to crib but I'm finding babies do both. This is one years worth of gnawing. I don't know when he found the time but apparently I have provided plenty of opportunities. I'm glad his gnawing is isolated to one corner. There is one word for this...PRICELESS!

Pumpkin Carving

We wanted Hunter to participate so we taped some plastic to the floor and let it get all over. Everyone had a job, Ellis carved, Hunter licked the floor, seeds, spoon and pumpkin while I was photo/videographer. We had a GREAT time and look forward to doing it again next year.

Halloween Costume

For the past 10 years we have been Halloween hermits but that has all changed. This year we enjoyed carving a pumpkin and although we did not dress up ourselves we played dress up with our son. As the result of an ordering problem we had to settle with this costume and it was a great ten dollar value that looked cute. We look forward to many more fun and exciting Halloweens and who knows, maybe we will dress up.

Reflecting on the Past

With our boat winterized, season ski passes bought and winter attire out, we are ready for the snow and all the festivities it brings.

Our little man is growing and I can't believe how fast the past year has flown by. Next month our little man will be one and it is hard to imagine life without him. Since starting my career as a stay-at-home mom, I have greater respect for the profession. There are days going to work would be a lot easier but I know staying home full-time is whats best for my family. Having children is truly a life changing experience, one that gives new perspective, patience, love and joy!

Finding The Toilet

After several failed attempts at getting to the toilet, Hunter finally succeeded. I couldn't decide if I should laugh or be completely grossed out but after this video Hunter got a scrub down in the bathtub.

Hunter is growing, crawling and getting into everything but we are loving almost every minute. He crawls at a high rate of speed especially when you go to retrieve something out of his mouth or he is heading to the toilet. Nothing is sacred and most of our decorative items have found their way to the attic until such time they can be viewed with eyes rather than little feeler fingers. Hunter is our little soccer players and loves to kick a ball from his jumper, this gives him great delight and can entertain him for quite some time. It is hard to believe that he will be having his first birthday in a few months. How the year has flown by!!!

Reflecting on Summer 09

It has been quite some time since we updated our blog, to our viewers we apologize. The rains are here and darkness is setting in so we have lots of time for blogging.

Summer was full of fishing, more fishing, crabbing family and friends. The whale watching this year was unbelievable along with the weather. However, we had to venture much further than last year to halibut fish and at times we felt like the the old man and the sea. Unfortunately we did not catch any monsters and the largest halibut weighing in at 80 lbs. There is always next year!!

During our vacation there was a lot of cousin time to be had! Hunter enjoyed watching and interacting with them . His developmental abilities increased by wanting to imitate their action.

What's New in April

April is a month of firsts!

We purchased a new mode of transportation for Hunter. He loves it and our backs are saying THANK YOU!
Hunter and Dax went on their first walk together.
Had our first fishing trip of the season. We figured out how to hook our jumper in the boat. It was a hit!! We are very thankful that Hunter loves being out on the water.
After cleaning the garage Ellis got his motorbike out and although his is to little to take a ride he sat on it while running. Ellis can't wait to introduce him to dirt bike ridding.

The Greatest Blessing of All

Hunter is one of the greatest blessings in our lives. It is amazing how such a little person can demand so much of your time, give you little to no sleep and yet bring the greatest joy and happiness into your life. We are still pinching ourselves, we never thought this day would come. The funny part of his whole adventure is we had given up hope of ever expanding our family. Miracles like this only reaffirm there is plan much bigger than ourselves.
